COURAGE NET CLIMBER & LAUNCH YOUR…
Design Development and Fabrication
The Cayton Children’s Museum offers expansive discovery-based exhibits and shares our commitment to discovery-based play and learning.
In a joint effort with designers, architect, museum director, and engineers Scientific Art Studio developed designs for two major areas of the new Cayton Children’s Museum in Santa Monica. Expanding the constraints of the space and materials, we developed a design for the Courage Climber - based on an ethereal fine art sculpture - into an exhibit that is manageable, strong, fun, and durable. And we developed, built and installed Launch Your – a soft, colorful landscape for ages 0-2.

Courage Climber
The Courage Climber is a labyrinth-like net canopy that effectively creates another level to the museum and an environment where children can push themselves to the next level of challenge. The nets, given shape by custom lightweight space frames, make valleys, tunnels, lookout perches, and balance obstacles in this inclusive space for exploration. Different vantage points provide a thrill, varying levels of difficulty enhance a sense of accomplishment, and a space that is just their own kids puts kids in charge of their own play and learning experience based on their comfort level.
Launch Your…
This area is designed to be a soft, multi-level climber for the littlest movers and their families. In this colorful and contained space toddlers discover and practice new motor skills and test their boundaries in safe and stimulating environment. Kinetic mobiles fly above the exhibit in a flock of shapes and colors. Bumps and gently changing levels test balance and spacial awareness but allows caretakers to let their little one explore their own limits and abilities.
